Before we begin this mass of thanksgiving, I would like to say a few words. It should have been Fr Richard Baawobr from Wa diocese to greet you all but, as I speak, he is flying back from Zambia and won't arrive till later tonight.
We even nearly failed to have with us Cardinal elect Archbishop Peter Dery to anticipate the celebration of thanksgiving in our chapel together with Archbishop Gregory of Tamale, because he has been detained by the Pope together with Cardinal Turkson. His Holiness probably wanted to congratulate him too.
But I am happy to welcome Bishop Lucas of Navrongo, Bishop Paul of Wa, Bishop Philip of Damongo, and Bishop Vincent of Yendi and the many friends who have already gathered here days ago in order not to miss this great moment
I am very happy also to welcome among us a delegation from the Ghanaian government composed of the Senior Minister, two ministers and the Ghanaian Ambassador to the Holy See. May they be thanked for being with us in this great occasion.
We now turn to God and thank him intensely for the marvels he did in the life and times of our new Cardinal.

Now that His Eminence Cardinal Turkson has been "released" by the Pope, I am very happy to welcome you all in our community of Missionaries of Africa.
We are most honoured that the first part of the many celebrations for our Cardinal elect Archbishop Peter Dery, is taking place in our House. I see in this, the mark and the
symbol of a long friendship between the Church of Ghana and the Missionaries of Africa.
Eminences, Bishops, members of the Ghanaian government, and the many friends who have come this evening, we have all come as members of one family. We are united in our prayers and support for our celebrated Cardinal elect.
I would like to remind you of two main points that Archbishop Gregory gave us in his homely: unity and collaboration. May unity gather us all in the name of Christ, and may collaboration allow the love of God to be expressed to all.
And now I am longing to share with you this cake of unity and collaboration on which the Sisters have beautifully sketched the coat of Arms of our dear Cardinal.
So, on behalf of Fr Richard Baawobr who would have loved to be here and on behalf of the General Council and the Generalate, I welcome you all !
