Chapitre Général

Aujourd'hui, le Supérieur général présente son rapport sur le mandat de son Conseil pendant les six dernières années. La première partie fait l'évaluation de la vie et des activités de la Société depuis le dernier Chapitre général. La seconde partie donne une courte présentation de l'état de la Société. En troisième partie, le Père Gérard Chabanon évoque les contextes où nous vivons notre engagement missionnaire :le monde, l'Afrique et l'Église. Chaque Missionnaire d'Afrique recevra bientôt ce rapport du Supérieur général.

 

L'après-midi, Bill Russell a présenté les activités de la Section de l'E.PO , Ethiopie- Proche-Orient (Jerusalem et Liban) et Théo Caerts celles de la Province de la PAO (Province de l'Afrique de l'Ouest) .

"L'E.PO ne doit pas mourir mais plutôt s'agrandir ", a dit son représentant. Elle a un centre de formation initiale pour la 1ère étape en Ethiopie et à Jerusalem un autre pour la 4ème Etape ainsi qu'un centre de formation permanente. De plus Ste-Anne est connue pour son ouverture au monde orthodoxe et au dialogue interreligieux. Voir article

Quant à la PAO, tout le monde a été frappé par l'efficacité de l'animation vocationnelle dans cette Province. De plus cette Province à 3 centres de Formation initiale, 1ere étape, noviciat, et 4ème Etape. Il y a aussi des centres pour la Rencontre, le dialogue interreligieux (IFIC)... Des confrères sont aussi en charge de Justice et Paix et Intégrité de la Création (JPIC).

12 mai 2010. - INTERVIEW - Aujourd'hui, nous rencontrons un des deux modérateurs du Chapitre, le Père Dominic Apee. Il seconde sœur Micheline Tremblay qui a l'expérience de plus de 50 animations de Chapitres à travers le monde.

Je suis né à Bolgatanga, au nord du Ghana, le 28 mai 1960. J'ai fait mon premier cycle chez les Missionnaires d'Afrique à Tamalé. Dans ce temps-là, nous étions avec les grands séminaristes diocésains. En 1985, après 2 ans de philo, je suis parti pour le noviciat à Fribourg. J'ai fait ensuite mon stage au Zaïre et, en 1988, j'ai commencé mes études théologiques à Toulouse. Trois ans plus tard, j'ai prononcé mon Serment missionnaire et ai été ordonné prêtre l'année d'après, en 1991.

Je suis ensuite reparti en RDCongo. J'ai commencé en paroisse en Ituri, dans le diocèse de Mahagi. Après 3 ans, je suis allé au diocèse de Bunia, mais après quelques mois, on m'a demandé d'aller à la Ruzizi comme économe et formateur. Nous sommes alors en 1995. En 1998, on m'envoie à Rome pour étudier l'Histoire de l'Église, un cours de trois ans. En 2001, je suis de retour à la Ruzizi. En 2003, je suis nommé Assistant provincial de la nouvelle province, la PAC. Après six ans, je prends une année sabbatique. On me demande alors d'être modérateur au Chapitre.

Dis-nous pourquoi, à ton avis, tu as été choisi comme modérateur à ce Chapitre.
Je suppose qu'on s'est basé sur l'expérience que j'ai acquise lorsque j'ai eu à remplir ce rôle au Rwanda, en Afrique du Sud et au Burundi durant les rencontres des jeunes confrères, et à la Province durant les réunions des stagiaires. J'ai aussi été modérateur durant les conseils provinciaux pendant 6 ans. Je n'en suis pas à mon premier Chapitre. J'ai participé au Chapitre de 2004.

En quoi va consister ton rôle de modérateur ?
Je serai co-modérateur avec sœur Micheline Tremblay, des Sœurs de la Sainte Croix, qui a une grande expérience dans ce domaine. Elle en est à son 52e Chapitre ! Le mois dernier, nous avons eu une rencontre de préparation au Chapitre avec les membres du Conseil général.
Ils nous ont dit ce qu'ils avaient prévu pour le Chapitre, dans quel esprit ils souhaitaient qu'il se déroule, etc. Sœur Micheline et moi avons étudié les propositions du Conseil et leur avons proposé à notre tour les retouches ou les ajouts qu'il nous semblait devoir faire. Pour le bon déroulement du Chapitre, nous aurons à animer les assemblées plénières et aussi à faire le tour des groupes de discussion.
Au soir de chaque jour, nous ferons un compte-rendu de ce qui s'est passé dans la journée et écouterons les remarques faites par un comité ('Steerring comity') présidé par le Supérieur général et composé d'un membre de chaque équipe.

Comment t'es-tu préparé à ce Chapitre ?
Je me prépare à ce Chapitre depuis plusieurs mois. J'ai déjà lu les résumés des précapitulaires ainsi que tout ce qui avait rapport au Chapitre sur notre site Web et dans le Petit Écho. Comme je l'ai déjà dit, nous avons eu une rencontre le mois dernier avec Sœur Micheline et les membres du Conseil. J'ai aussi fait une retraite de 30 jours pour me préparer spirituellement à ce Chapitre. Je pense que je suis prêt à entrer dans le Chapitre.

General Chapter

12th May 2010.
Today, the Superior General presents the report of his Council's mandate over the last six years. The first part is an assessment of the life and activities of the Society since the last General Chapter. The second part gives a brief presentation of the state of the Society. In the third part, Father Gérard Chabanon mentions the contexts in which we live our missionary commitments: the world, Africa and the Church. Every Missionary of Africa will soon receive a copy of the Superior General's Report.

In the afternoon, Bill Russell presented the activities of the E-PO Section (Ethiopia, Proche-Orient: Jerusalem and Lebanon) and Théo Caerts the activities of the Province of PAO (Province of Afrique de l'Ouest)

‘The E-PO ought not to die, but rather expand’, said its representative. It boasts a Formation Centre for the First Phase in Ethiopia and at Jerusalem another for the Fourth Phase, as well as a Centre for Ongoing Formation. As for PAO, everyone was struck by the effectiveness of Vocation Promotion in this Province. Moreover, this Province has 3 Initial Formation Centres, First Phase, Novitiate and Fourth Phase. There are also Centres for Encounter and Interreligious Dialogue (IFIC)... Confreres are also in charge of Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC).

12th May 2010. - INTERVIEW - Today, we meet Fr. Dominic Apee, one of the two Moderators of the Chapter. He partners Sister Micheline Tremblay who has experience of facilitating over 50 chapters throughout the world.

I was born on the 28th May 1960 at Bolgatanga in the north of Ghana. I did my First Cycle with the Missionaries of Africa at Tamale. At that time, we studied along with the major seminarians of the diocese. In 1985, after two years of philosophy, I left for the novitiate at Fribourg. I then did my apostolic practice in Zaire and in 1988 began my theology studies at Toulouse. Three years later, I took my Missionary Oath and was ordained a priest a year later, in 1991.

I then left for the DR Congo. I began in a parish in Ituri, Mahagi Diocese. After 3 years, I went to the Diocese of Bunia, but after a few months, I was asked to go to La Ruzizi as bursar and member of staff. It was then 1995. In 1998, I was sent to Rome to study Church History, lasting three years. In 2001, I was back again at La Ruzizi. In 2003, I was appointed Assistant Provincial of the new PAC Province. After six years, I took a sabbatical year. I was then asked to be Moderator at the Chapter.

Tell us why, in your opinion, you were chosen as Moderator of this Chapter.
I suppose it was based on the experienced I gained while I was asked to play this role in Rwanda, South Africa and Burundi for meetings of young confreres and on behalf of the Province for meetings of those students on apostolic practice. I was also moderator for the Provincial Council for 6 years. It is not the first time for me to attend a Chapter. I took part in the 2004 Chapter.

In what does your role of Moderator consist?
I will be co-Moderator with Sister Micheline Tremblay of the Holy Cross Sisters. She has a long experience in this area. She is on her 52nd chapter! Last month, we had a preparatory Chapter meeting with the General Council. The members told us what they had foreseen for the Chapter and in what spirit they would like to see it unfold, etc. Sister Micheline and I studied the proposals of the Council and in our turn offered our retouches or additions about what we felt we ought to do.
We will be seeing to conducting the Plenary Assemblies and also going round the discussion groups for the smooth running of the Chapter. At the end of each day, we will make a report of what happened during it and will listen to comments made by the 'Steering Committee' chaired by the Superior General and composed of a member from each group.

How did you prepare for this Chapter?
I have been preparing for this Chapter for several months. I have already read the summaries of the Post-Capitular Assemblies as well as everything to do with the Chapter on our Website and in the Petit Echo. As I have already said, we had a meeting last month with Sister Micheline and the members of the Council. I also did a 30-Day Retreat to prepare myself spiritually for this Chapter. I think I am ready to enter the Chapter.
