Samedi 12 Juin Chapitre
À 17 heures, la messe de clôture officielle du Chapitre a eu lieu au cours de laquelle nous avons participé à une cérémonie de transmission entre les membres du Conseil général sortant et les membres du nouveau Conseil général. Environ 120 personnes participaient à cette Eucharistie.
Le Père Chabanon, Supérieur général sortant, a entamé la cérémonie en souhaitant la bienvenue à tous et à toutes. Le Père Baawobr a lu l'Évangile de Luc 4, 16-30, où Jésus annonce sa mission aux gens de Nazareth. Le Père Baawobr a ensuite prononcé l'homélie. Au moment de l'offertoire, Bernard Tremblay et Francis Barnes nous ont proposé une symbolique de l'eau retraçant l'histoire de notre Société et de notre mission.
L'équipe sortante a offert tout spécialement le vécu des six dernières années, alors que la nouvelle équipe offrait les premiers fruits de ce 27e Chapitre de notre Société. Une cérémonie simple mais remplie d'émotion.
Après la communion, des représentants de l'Europe, des Amériques, du Moyen Orient, de l'Asie et de l'Afrique, ont déposé chacun une plante autour de l'autel. Les cinq membres du nouveau Conseil ont alors officiellement endossé leur mission en puisant au puits de notre histoire et en arrosant ces plantes pour signifier leur engagement à servir la mission et la Société, partout où nous sommes, avec le même souci de voir la grâce de Dieu faire fleurir les déserts et produire du fruit en abondance.
En conclusion, le Père Gérard Chabanon a remis à Richard Baawobr et à son Conseil une prière de François d'Assise et une page de l'Évangile en arabe (Marc 4, 30-34 : la parabole de la graine de moutarde), document historique retrouvé au côté d'un des premiers Pères de la Société assassiné dans le désert.
L'Eucharistie a été suivie d'un barbecue dans le jardin de la Maison généralice. C'est ainsi que s'est terminé ce 27e Chapitre des Missionnaires d'Afrique.

CHAPTER 2010 Saturday 12th June
At 5pm the official Closing Mass of the Chapter took place, during which we participated in the handing-over ceremony between the members of the outgoing and incoming General Councils. There were around 120 people attending this Eucharist.
Father Chabanon, outgoing Superior General, opened the ceremony by wishing a warm welcome to all present. Father Baawobr read the Gospel of Luke, 4:16-30, where Jesus announces his mission to the people at Nazareth. Father Baawobr then gave a homily in French and English. At the Offertory, Bernard Tremblay and Francis Barnes presented a symbolic pageant of water, retracing the history of our Society and of our Mission.
The outgoing team in particular offered the lived experience of the last six years, whereas the new team offered the first fruits of this 27th Chapter of our Society. It was a simple but very moving ceremony.
After Communion, the new representatives of Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and Africa each placed a potted plant round the altar. The five members of the new Council then officially endorsed their Mission in drawing from the well of our history and in watering these plants, signifying their commitment to serve the mission and the Society, wherever we are, with the same care in seeing the grace of God enabling the deserts to flourish and producing fruit in abundance.
In conclusion, Father Gérard Chabanon presented Richard Baawobr and his Council with a prayer of Francis of Assisi on parchment and a page of the Gospel in Arabic (Mark4: 30-34 - the parable of the mustard seed), an historical document found beside one of the first Fathers of the Society murdered in the desert.
The Eucharist was followed by a barbecue in the garden of the Generalate. Thus the 27th Chapter of the Missionaries of Africa ended.
