Le Père Jozef Van Boxel, Belge, 55 ans, a été élu Assistant général de la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique pour les six prochaines années (2010-2016) le 3 juin. Le Père Jozef Van Boxel est né à Turnhout, Belgique le 20 juillet 1954. Entré dans la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique, il a fait son noviciat à Ottawa en 1976-1977. Puis il fut envoyé à Totteridge, Grande Bretagne, pour étudier la théologie. Il a fait son Serment Missionnaire dans la Société le 5 décembre 1981, et a été ordonné prêtre à Chimay, Belgique, le 24 juillet 1982. Sa première nomination en Afrique fut pour Lundazi, diocèse de Chipata, en Zambie. Il y resta quatre ans.

Suivirent des études à Rome en Philosophie (2 ans). En 1988, le Père Van Boxel est nommé au grand séminaire de Mpima, en Zambie, puis au 1er Cycle de Kahangala, en Tanzanie, en 1991. En 1996, il se déplace au 1er Cycle d'Arusha et en 1997, il part en Belgique pour y faire de l'animation missionnaire et être supérieur de la communauté de Leuven. En 1999, il est élu Conseiller provincial en Belgique. En 2002, il fait la session "Disciples Missionnaires Aujourd’hui" à Jérusalem et en 2003, il est nommé en Ouganda. Mais avant de se rendre là-bas, il fait partie du Staff de Jérusalem pendant environ 6 mois. Rendu en Ouganda, il sera formateur à Jinja et élu conseiller de la Province en septembre 2005. Il devient Recteur du Consortium à Jinja en octobre 2005. Il participe à son premier Chapitre dans notre Société en tant que délégué élu de la Province de l'Ouganda

CHAPTER 2010 Thursday 3rd June

On the 3rd June 2010, Father Jozef Van Boxel, Belgian, 55 years old, was elected Assistant General of the Society of Missionaries of Africa for the next six years. Father Jozef Van Boxel was born at Turnhout, Belgium, on the 20th July 1954. Entering the Society of Missionaries of Africa, he did his Spiritual Year at Ottawa from 1976-1977. He was then sent to Totteridge, London, where he studied theology. He took his Missionary Oath in the Society on the 5th December 1981 and was ordained to the priesthood at Chimay, Belgium, on the 24th July 1982. His first appointment for Africa was for Zambia, Chipata Diocese, Lundazi parish. He remained there for four years.

Two years of philosophy studies in Rome followed. In 1988, Father Van Boxel was appointed to Mpima Major Seminary, Zambia, then to the then First Cycle at Kahangala, Tanzania, in 1991. In 1996, he was moved to the Arusha First Phase and in 1997 he left for Belgium to do Missionary Promotion and to become Superior of the community at Leuven. In 1999, he was elected Provincial councillor for Belgium. In 2002, he did the "Missionary Disciples Today" Session at Jerusalem and in 2003 was appointed to Uganda. However, before reaching there, he formed part of the staff at Jerusalem for about 6 months. Once in Uganda, he was on the teaching staff at Jinja and elected councillor for the Province in September 2005. He became Rector of the Consortium at Jinja in October 2005. He is attending the Chapter of our Society for the first time.
