Le Père Peter Welsh, Britannique, 43 ans, a été élu Assistant général de la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique le 4 juin. Peter est né à Beckenham, Grande Bretagne, le 2 juillet 1966. Entré dans la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique, il a fait son Année spirituelle à Fribourg, Suisse, en 1989-1990. Il a fait son stage au Niger et envoyé ensuite à Totteridge, Grande Bretagne, pour étudier la théologie. Il a fait son Serment missionnaire dans la Société à Londres, le 16 décembre 1995, et a été ordonné prêtre à Beckenham, sa ville natale, le 6 juillet 1996.

Sa première nomination en Afrique est en Tanzanie, en octobre 1996, comme vicaire dans la paroisse de Nzera, dans le diocèse de Geita.
En octobre 1999, on le retrouve comme vicaire dans la paroisse d'Iboja, diocèse de Kahama. En mai de la même année, il est envoyé dans une paroisse à majorité musulmane, Makokola, dans le diocèse de Tabora. En 2005, il est nommé dans son pays d'origine, la Grande Bretagne, pour s'occuper de la revue des Pères Blancs, White Fathers, White Sisters. En 2007, il est élu Conseiller de la Province de la Grande Bretagne, et en 2008, Supérieur du secteur Grande Bretagne de la Province d'Europe. En mai 2010, il vient au Chapitre en tant que délégué élu de la Province d'Europe.

CHAPTER 2010 Friday 4th June

Father Peter Welsh, British, 43, was elected Assistant General of the Society of Missionaries of Africa on the 4th June 2010. Peter was born at Beckenham, England, on the 2nd July 1966. Entering the Society of Missionaries of Africa, he did his Spiritual Year at Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1989-1990. He did his apostolic practice in Niger and was then sent to Totteridge, England, to study theology. He took his Missionary Oath in the Society on the 16th December 1995, at London, and was ordained to the priesthood at his home town of Beckenham on the 6th July 1996.

His first appointment in Africa was to Tanzania in October 1996, as curate in Nzera parish, Geita Diocese.

In October 1999, he was curate at Iboja parish in Kahama Diocese. In May of the same year, he was sent to a Muslim majority parish at Makokola, in the Archdiocese of Tabora. In 2005, he was appointed to his home Province of Great Britain to look after the White Fathers - White Sisters Magazine. In 2007, he was elected Provincial Councillor and of the Province of Great Britain and in 2008 Delegate Superior of the Sector of Great Britain in the European Province. In May 2010, he came to the Chapter as elected delegate of the European Province.
