MG MAfr , Rome, 31 Mai 2010 - Le Père Richard Baawobr, élu Supérieur General

Le Père Richard Baawobr est né à Nandom-Lawra au Ghana le 21 juin 1959. Entré dans la Société des Missionnaires d'Afrique, il a fait son noviciat à Fribourg en 1981-1982. Puis il fut envoyé à Totteridge, Londres, pour étudier la théologie. Il s'est engagé à vie dans la Société par le Serment missionnaire, le 5 décembre 1986, et a été ordonné prêtre à Ko, au Ghana le 18 juillet 1987. Sa première nomination en Afrique fut pour Livulu, diocèse de Kinshasa, Congo. Il y resta quatre ans.

Suivirent des études à Rome en Écriture Sainte (4 ans); une formation à la spiritualité ignatienne au Chatelard, Lyon, France; et une nomination comme membre de l'équipe du noviciat (année spirituelle) de Kahangala en Tanzanie (1996-1999).

En 1998, le Père Baawobr avait participé au Chapitre Général comme délégué de la Tanzanie. Depuis octobre 1999, il était responsable des étudiants M.Afr. qui faisaient la théologie à Toulouse. Il a pris une année sabbatique en 2002-2003 pour continuer à travailler à la rédaction de sa thèse de doctorat en Écriture Sainte (qu'il a obtenu en Novembre 2004). Il était membre du Chapitre 2004 comme délégué de la Province de France et avait été élu comme 1er Assistant Général (2004-2010)

MAfr Generalate, Rome, 31st May 2010 - Father Richard Baawobr, elected Superior General .

Father Richard Baawobr was born in Nandom-Lawra, Ghana, on the 21st June 1959. He joined the Society of Missionaries of Africa, making his noviciate at Fribourg in 1981-1982. He was then sent to Totteridge, London, for theology. He took his Missionary Oath on the 5th December 1986 and was ordained to the priesthood at Ko, Ghana, on the 18th July 1987. His first appointment in Africa was to Livulu, Kinshasa diocese, Congo. He stayed there for four years.

He then went to Rome for Scripture studies (4 years), then to Châtelard, Lyons, France, for training in Ignatian spirituality. He was appointed as a member of the team of the Kahangala Spiritual Year, Tanzania (1996-1999).

In 1998, Father Baawobr participated in the General Chapter as delegate for Tanzania. From October 1999, he was in charge of M.Afr. students doing theology in Toulouse. He took a Sabbatical in 2002-2003 to continue work on his doctorate in Holy Scripture (which he successfuly obtained in November 2004). He came to the 2004 Chapter as delegate of the French Province and he was elected 1st Assistant General (2004-2010)
