DECES DU P. GIAN-BATTISTA MAFFI, M.AFR.

Hier après-midi, mardi 5 janvier 2010, vers les 14.30, s'est produit une explosion dans la bibliothèque de l'Institut des Belles Lettres Arabes (I.B.L.A) à Tunis. Suite à l'explosion, un incendie s'est déclaré et malgré l'intervention rapide des Sapeurs-Pompiers de la ville, notre confrère Gian-Battista Maffi , 54 ans, qui se trouvait à l'intérieur de la bibliothèque n'a pu être sauvé. Son corps a été complètement carbonisé.

La police scientifique est au travail pour essayer de déterminer les causes de l'explosion et de l'incendie.

Nous nous unissons à la douleur et à la peine de la maman de Gian-Battista, à sa famille et à ses amis. Prions pour notre confrère décédé, pour ses confrères en Tunisie et en Italie et pour les membres de l'assemblée pré-capitulaire qui se préparent à commencer ses travaux demain jeudi 7 janvier à Tunis.

Le Provincial du Maghreb, José Cantal, est sur place. Il est en train d'organiser les funérailles dont la date n'a pas encore été fixée.

DEATH OF FATHER GIAN-BATTISTA MAFFI, M.AFR.

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday the 5th January, about 14.30, there was an explosion in the library of the Institut des Belles Lettres Arabes (IBLA), Tunis. Following the blast, a fire broke out and in spite of the rapid intervention of the city’s Fire Brigade, our confrere Gian-Battista Maffi, 54 years, who was in the library, could not be rescued. He was burnt to death, his body charred.

Police from the forensic laboratory are at work to try to determine the causes of the explosion and the fire.

We join in the sorrow and grief of Gian-Battista’s mother, family and friends. Let us pray for our deceased confrere, for all his confreres in Tunisia and Italy, and for the members of the Pre-Capitular Assembly preparing to begin its work tomorrow the 7th January at Tunis.

José Cantal, Provincial of the Maghreb, is on the spot. He is in the process of organising the funeral at a date yet to be fixed.
