Visit to the Southern Africa Province (SAP)

From the 27th February to the 26th March 2012 I was in the our Province of Southern Africa (Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia). During this visit I was able to meet a number of confreres working parishes, centres and formation houses. I also had the chance to meet our students in Merrivale, Beira, Balaka and Kanengo. At the end of this visit, I attended the meeting for the JPIC Coordinators in the Province. This was the first meeting since Claudio Zuccala was appointed as the provincial coordinator for JPIC-ED.

The involvement of the Missionaries of Africa in JPIC ministries in collaboration with the local churches is one of the strong positive points in this province. In fact, the latter have a long legacy whereby the religious leaders, either through the Episcopal Conferences (Catholic), or through united interfaith associations, actively participate in the public debate about the social and political developments of their countries.

The three centres - FENZA, CfSC and Kungoni - in the Province are doing a recommendable work in both fields, Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, and Encounter and Dialogue. In the future they will seek more avenues for regular collaborations amongst themselves and also with the confreres in the parishes. The follow up on the Africae Munus was the first concrete decision towards this end.

Du 27 février au 26 mars 2012, j'étais dans notre Province d'Afrique australe (Malawi, Mozambique, Afrique du Sud et Zambie). Durant ma visite, j'ai pu rencontrer un bon nombre de confrères en paroisse, dans des centres et dans nos maisons de formation. J'ai également eu la chance de rencontrer nos étudiants à Merrivale, Beira, Balaka et Kanengo. À la fin de ma visite, j'ai tenu une réunion avec les coordinateurs JPIC de la Province. C'était la première réunion depuis que Claudio Zuccala a été nommé coordinateur provincial pour JPIC-RD.

La participation des Missionnaires d'Afrique dans l'apostolat JPIC, en collaboration avec les Églises locales, est un des points positifs et forts dans cette Province. En fait, ce point a un long héritage par lequel les chefs religieux, soit à travers les Conférences épiscopales (catholiques), soit à travers les associations interconfessionnelles unies, participent activement au débat public sur les développements sociaux et politiques de leurs pays.

Les trois centres dans la Province - FENZA, CfSC et Kungoni - font un travail remarquable au niveau des deux activités : Justice, Paix et Intégrité de Création, et Rencontre et Dialogue. Dans le futur, ils chercheront davantage de possibilités pour des collaborations régulières entre eux et aussi avec les confrères qui sont en paroisse. Donner suite à " Africae Munus " a été la première décision concrète vers cette finalité.
