Karen" de Nairobi au Kenya
à l'âge de 36 ans dont 2 ans de vie missionnaire en Algérie
et en République Démocratique du Congo.
Ghislain sera enterré a Nairobi.
Pour le moment la date de ses funerailles n’est pas encore fixée
car nous attendons des membres de sa famille. Nous vous tiendrons au courant

Né le 24-07-1970, il a fait ses études secondaires à Kibangula. Ayant reçu son diplôme, il a enseigné pendant trois ans dans une école. En 1993 il est allé à Goma où il a fait son année préparatoire, et en 1994 il est entré au premier Cycle de la Rusizi. En 1998 il a été accepté à l'Année Spirituelle de Bobo-Dioulasso. Nommé en 1999 en Algérie, Ghislain a fait son Stage Apostolique de deux ans à Ouargla.
Il a fait son serment et reçu le diaconat le 13 décembre 2003 à Totteridge (Londres).
Il a été ordonné prêtre au Congo à Wamaza le 27 Juillet 2004.
Originaire de Muhoyo (Diocèse Kasongo) en R.D. Congo, il était en poste à Tizi-Ouzou en Algérie et devait aller au Caire à Dar Comboni.
Ghislain was born on the 24 July 1970 in Kibangula, Wamaza Parish, in Kasongo Diocese (D.R. Congo). He did his primary school in Kasongo and went then for his secondary education to Kibangula. Having received his diploma, he taught for three years in a school. In 1993 he went to Goma, where he did his preparatory year and in 1994 he entered our first Cycle in Rusizi. In 1998 he was accepted in the Noviciate of Bobo Dioulasso. Appointed in 1999 to Algeria, Ghislain did his stage of two years in Ouargla. In 2001 he came to London. On the 13th December 2003 Ghislain pronounced his Missionary Oath and got ordained deacon. In July the 27 th, 2004 Ghislain has been ordained priest in Wamaza in Congo. He was appointed to Tizi-Ouzou in Algeria and after two years had just been appointed to Cairo (Dar Comboni)

Cher Gérard et les membres du Conseil Général,
Avec le plus profond regret, nous vous annonçons le décès de notre confrère Ghislain. Il a rendu l'esprit mercredi le 20 septembre à 22h00.
Mon dernier courriel lundi soir affirmait de la part du médecin que les chances de survie de Ghislain diminuaient. Hier, mardi, j'ai reçu un coup de fil du médecin me disant que la situation s'était améliorée. J'ai foncé à l'hôpital pour me rendre compte personnellement de sa santé. Il était bien éveillé et répondait à des commandes telles : déplace la main gauche, serre la main dans la mienne, etc. Nous étions tous dans l'allégresse. J'ai communiqué au médecin que Dominic Apee (vice provincial) devait arriver plus tard dans la journée et nous avons pris rendez-vous pour l'après-midi. Cela c'était hier.
Ce matin j'ai recu un coup de téléphone de l'hôpital pour davantage de sang car il avait eu des hémorragies dans la nuit et etait tombé de nouveau dans le coma. J'ai réussi à faire venir quatre personnes pour donner du sang. Le nombre de personnes qui ont donné arrive maintenant à 36. A trois heures de l'après-midi, je suis allé à l'hôpital avec Dominic Apee, Martin Addai, Ludwig Peschen et l'oncle de Ghislain. En effet, la condition de Ghislain s'était énormément aggravé . Il paraissait très pâle, presque jaunâtre et son visage semblait enflé ; il saignait du nez. Nous sommes tous montés voir le médecin et nous avons passé 45 minutes avec lui ; il a expliqué à Dominic tout ce qu'ils avaient fait jusqu'alors. Nous lui avons posé des questions directes : quelles sont ces chances de survie et quelle sera la qualité de la vie dans le cas où il s'en sortirait ? Très simplement, le médecin nous a dits que Ghislain avait 5% de chances de survie ; on s'est alors demandé s'il était nécessaire de continuer à prolonger la vie par les moyens artificiels. Nous nous sommes décidés d'attendre encore 24 heures avant de prendre une décision à cet effet. Nous sommes sortis de l'hôpital à 5 heures du soir et à 10 heures j'ai reçu l'appel de l'hôpital me disant que Ghislain venait de mourir. Nous nous sommes rendus de suite à l'hôpital en compagnie d'une vingtaine de nos étudiants et nous sommes restés un bon moment pour prier auprès de lui.
Tout le monde ici s'est battu corps et âme pour sauver la vie de Ghislain. Le personnel de l'hôpital, les étudiants et les confrères, les Sœurs Smnda, les amis et les voisins ont été sans pareils. Je suis persuadé que Ghislain s'est battu plus que tous, mais à la fin nous nous inclinons humblement devant la volonté du Très Haut.

Dear Gerard and General Council,
With deep regret, we announce the death of our confrere Ghislain. He passed away at 22h00, Wednesday 20th September.
My last email on Monday night stated that Ghislain's chances of survival, according to his doctor, were diminishing. Yesterday, Tuesday I received a call from the doctor informing me that the situation had improved. I rushed to the hospital to see things for myself. He was widely awake and responded to requests like: move your left hand, squeeze my hand etc. We were all very excited. I informed the doctor that Dominic Apee was arriving later that day and we fixed an appointment for this afternoon. That was yesterday.
This morning I received a call from the hospital asking for more blood because he had been bleeding the whole night and had slipped again into unconsciousness. I got four people to donate people. This brings to about 36 the number of donors. At 3.30pm I went to the hospital with Dominic, Martin Addai, Ludwig Peschen and the uncle of Ghislain. The condition of Ghislain was indeed very bad; he was very pale, almost yellowish, and his face seemed to be swollen; he was bleeding from the nose. We all went up to see the doctor and spent about 45 minutes with him; he explained to Dominic everything that has been done so far. We asked him some straight questions: what are his chances of survival and what will be the quality of his life if he pulls through. The Doctor was very straightforward: Ghislain had 5% chance of survival; we then wondered whether it was necessary to continue prolonging his life through all these artificial means. We decided to wait another 24 hours before making any decisions on the matter. We left the hospital at 5pm and at 10pm I got a phone call from the hospital informing me that he had just passed away. We went straight away to the hospital with about 20 of our students and spent some time praying around him.
What next? That is the big question. Shall we bury him here or send the body back to Bukavu? Tomorrow morning, a group of confreres with Dominic and Ghislain's uncle will sit down together to try to answer this question.
Everyone here has fought very hard to save Ghislain's life. The medical and nursing staff, the students and confreres, Msola, friends and neighbours, have all been wonderful. I believe Ghislain has fought the hardest; but in the end we humbly bow to God's will.
