Meeting of Missionaries of Africa
Lusaka (Zambia)
18th to 22nd March 2003
The participants were: Thomas Maier and Frans Bouwen (Jerusalem), Jan Lenssen (Kenya), Richard Nnyombi (Rome), Geoffrey Riddle, William Russell (Zambia) (Tanzania), and José L. Bandres (Ethiopia).(from left to right)
The Moderator of the meeting was Fr. Jan Lenssen.
The two main objectives of this meeting were:
- To bring together the confrères involved in the ecumenical dialogue to share their personal experiences and visions for the future.
- To make suggestions for action on the level of the Circumscriptions and the Society.A friendly and open spirit characterized this meeting. The sharing was very good and the participants really took interest in what the others had to say and share. For some confreres, this was the first time to meet!
According to Fr. Frans Bouwen, who has been active in this ministry for the last 34 years, this was the first meeting of its kind bringing together confreres involved in the ecumenical dialogue. But, he says that it is not yet time to sing his 'nunc dimittis'!
One of the fruits of this meeting is the launching of an Ecumenical-Network amongst the Missionaries of Africa involved in the ecumenical ministry. The aim of this network is to share experiences, inspire and facilitate our ecumenical commitments.
The coordinator is Fr. Jan Lenssen and his e-mail address is: janlenssen@wananchi.com
More details about this meeting will appear in the next issue of the Petit Echo.
