Congrès majeur pour évaluer la mission catholique en Afrique

DAR ES SALAAM, le 12 janvier 2007 (CISA) Un congrès de haut niveau pour évaluer l'évangélisation catholique en Afrique pendant la dernière décennie et tracer la stratégie pour l'avenir s'ouvre la semaine prochaine à Dar es Salaam, la capitale commerciale de la Tanzanie.
La réunion d'une durée de trois jours à partir de mardi 16 janvier jusqu'au 18 rassemblera des évêques, des abbés et des laïcs, ainsi que quelques Représentants officiels du Vatican sous le thème de 'L'évangélisation en Afrique : Rétrospective d' " Ecclesia in Africa " et la voie vers l'avant.'
Le Congrès est organisé par l'organisme continental des évêques catholiques, Le Symposium des Conférences épiscopales de l'Afrique et du Madagascar. (SCEAM)
La 14ème assemblée plénière du SCEAM aura lieu après le Congrès.
Selon le Président de SCEAM, Mgr John Onaiyekan, Archeveque d'Abuja au Nigéria, le Congrés se penchera sur quelques problèmes soulevés par le document " Ecclesia in Africa " (l'Eglise en Afrique), promulgué au mois de septembre 1995 par Sa Sainteté le Pape Jean-Paul II, à la suite de la clôture du Synode africain qui avait eu lieu à Rome en avril 1994.
Mgr Onaiyekan a souligné que le Congrès cherchera à prêter son appui pour intensifier les initiatives et pour améliorer la mise en oeuvre des recommandations d' " Ecclesia in Africa " qui fera de l'évangélisation sur le continent un élément plus dynamique et significatif pour les gens.
Parmi les Représentants du Vatican attendus au Congrès sont le Cardinal Ivan Dias, Préfet de la Congrégation pour l'évangélisation des Peuples (la Section Mission au Saint-Siège), le Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, Président du Conseil Pontifical pour la Justice et la Paix, Mgr l'Archevêque Paul-Josef Cordes, Président de Cor Unum, et Monsieur l'Abbé Gustave Yameogo du Conseil Pontifical pour les Communications Sociales.

Major Congress to Assess Catholic Mission in Africa

DAR ES SALAAM, January 12, 2007 (CISA) -A high-level congress opens in the Tanzanian commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, next week to assess Catholic evangelization in Africa in the past decade and to map out strategies for the future.
The three-day meeting, from Tuesday, Jan.16 to 18, will bring together African bishops, priests and lay people and some Vatican officials, under the theme: 'Evangelization in Africa: Ecclesia in Africa in Retrospect and the Way Forward.'
The congress is organized by the continental body of Catholic bishops, the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM).
SECAM will also hold its 14th plenary assembly after the congress.
According to SECAM President, Archbishop John Onaiyekan, the congress will examine some of the issues raised in the document Ecclesia in Africa (The Church in Africa) that was promulgated in September 1995 by Pope John Paul II, following the conclusion of the African Synod that took place in Rome in April 1994.
Archbishop Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria, stressed that the congress will seek to help intensify initiatives and improve on the implementation of the recommendations of Ecclesia in Africa that will make Evangelisation in the continent more dynamic and relevant to the people.
Vatican officials expected at the congress include Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (the Holy See's mission department), Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, Archbishop Paul Josef Cordes, President of Cor Unum, and Father Janvier Gustave Yameogo of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
